Leading Lives is proud to have made the commitment to become a more Disability Confident employer.
The idea to become a Disability Confident employer was raised by a team member through our employee-ownership governance channels. Tania Simpson, one of Team Leaders in or Support To Live at Home service in Stowmarket, asked for the idea to be raised to our Shareholder Council. It was unanimously agreed there and our Shareholder Council member, Matt Tyler, then championed the idea, putting it forward to our Board who approved it straight away.
As the Disability Confident scheme is all about ensuring that employers have the knowledge, skills and confidence to attract, recruit, retain and develop disabled people in the workplace, and we’re all about supporting adults with learning disabilities and others with social care needs to lead the life they choose, this path seemed tailor made for us.
As a Disability Confident Committed Employer, we have committed to:
- Ensuring our recruitment process is inclusive and accessible
- Communicating and promoting vacancies
- Offering an interview to disabled people who meet the minimum criteria for the job
- Anticipating and providing reasonable adjustments as required
- Supporting any existing employee who acquires a disability or long-term health condition, enabling them to stay in work
- At least one activity that will make a difference for disabled people
We know there are many people out there with the skills and talents to make a difference within our organisation, and we are determined to make working with us a great experience. We have found previously that making adjustments for those with disabilities can create ways of working that have positive effects for more of the workforce, so we are looking forward to progressing through the scheme and welcoming a variety of new team members to our organisation.
