Rushmere Community Hub is a lovely, welcoming environment situated on the edge of town in a nice and quiet location.

We have a very welcoming team who are very well trained to meet the needs of our customers. In fact, between our team members we have nearly 200 years of care experience! Our team is great at ‘thinking outside the box’, are very skilled and creative and very committed to the hub, our customers, and their fellow team members.

We provide a range of daytime activities and opportunities for people with learning disabilities and autistic people, designed to support health and wellbeing, gaining confidence and independence, and learning new skills.

Many of our customers have been coming for many years and continue to enjoy attending, together we provide a warm and friendly environment with varied and fun activities that welcomes new customers to become part of our community.

Facilities:

Within the Hub

  • A large, well-equipped, accessible kitchen with a rise and fall table and pictures and symbols on draws and cupboards to help locate items.
  • A Sensory Room with bespoke individual sensory boxes, a high-quality stereo, a scent box and a range of visual stimulants including light strands, tube lights and a projector that sends stars spinning on the ceiling!
  • A customer laptop and 3 smart TV’s to access online events and meetings, an Alexa and a Nintendo switch.
  • A well stocked Arts & Crafts room
  • Wheelchair scales and a wheelchair weighing service (please consider offering a small donation of £5 to go towards maintenance and electricity)
  • Two large shower areas with shower trolleys. One with a ceiling-mounted hoist.
  • Two other toilet areas, and all are easily accessible by wheelchair. We are part of the ‘changing spaces’ scheme and these rooms can be used with notice.
  • A large minibus that we use regularly for outings

Within the grounds

  • We are a green and wildlife friendly hub with birdboxes, feeders, bug hotels and a wildflower meadow.
  • Our spacious grounds and garden area are filled with flowers, plants and other features created and maintained by the gardening group.
  • Raised beds that can be used as a growing area for vegetables.
  • Our patio area / sensory garden is lovely place for Customers to enjoy eating their lunch or just spend time outside. This area is bright and cheerful with nice, shaded areas and is wheelchair accessible throughout.
  • We have a greenhouse and potting shed style area.
  • There is a summerhouse ‘retreat’ for tranquil relaxation.

This is a sample timetable of daytime offer activities. The timetable includes, Monday - healthy cooking, Tuesday - Sports and exercise, Wednesday - Baking, Thursday - Arts and Crafts, Friday - Gardening. This is a sample timetable so is not representative of an exact week, but an example of what a week may look like. Alternative activities are always on offer as well.

We also run regular outings, have themed days around big events such as Easter and the Coronation, and provide 1:1 outings for some of our customers.

The Night Hub

Our Night Hub is a chilled out youth group for 13-24 year olds who are autistic or have learning disabilities, where they can have fun, try new activities and make new friends. It happens every term-time Thursdays from 6-8pm.

Cost: Costs vary depending on how much support is needed, 1-1 support is available. Starting at £6.00 a session for tier one, then £12.00 and going up to a maximum of £24.00. To arrange an assessment to start attending, or for more information, email nighthubs.info@leadinglives.org.uk

Hire our Hub!

We have a large well-lit hall, a large kitchen area and 2 smaller back rooms that can be hired and we have lots of car parking spaces available.

We welcome bookings from social and community groups and have previously hosted for dance and fitness classes and church groups.

Our recently revamped sensory room is also available to hire.
