We’re thrilled to be able to announce that we’ve given our Sensory Room at Rushmere Community Hub a whole new look (and feel, scents and sounds) from top to bottom!
We started by ripping out our old carpets and installing this beautiful new flooring chosen by our customers.
It’s not just good looking, it’s hard-wearing and hygienic with an easy clean finish.
It’s also got a lovely rubberised, textured finish so it feels better too.
Then we added in new wipe clean beanbags and a range of soft furnishings for unrestricted comfort and squishiness.
We also spent some time setting up bespoke individual sensory boxes for our regular customers to use. Some of our customers are non-verbal so we used our knowledge of the things they like best to build on, adding in new things for them to try which we can update for them regularly. These sensory boxes have the name and picture of the customer they’re for on the outside so that nobody else touches their particular items, a measure we’ve put in place to stay as COVID secure as possible.
Of course, we haven’t forgotten the importance of auditory input, and we’ve installed a brand new, high-quality stereo system that our customers can you to play they’re favourite sounds. We’ve also moved our scent box to make it more effective.
The cherry on the top of all this is our range of visual stimulants which include tactile hexagonal lights that can be moved and change colour, light strands, tube lights, a projector for ambient lighting shapes and another that sends stars spinning on the ceiling.
